The Firm
Burmeister Law Firm LLC is a Frankfurt-based criminal defence and human rights practice. We do not spread our attention across general civil, commercial, or administrative matters. We are specialists in two domains: defending the accused with the rigour the constitution demands, and pursuing redress for victims of human rights violations.
We operate from a position of principle: that justice is not guaranteed by the strength of the prosecution's case, but by the quality of the defence; and that human dignity survives even the most serious accusations, unless a court of law has determined otherwise.
Dr. James Andrich Burmeister
Dr. Burmeister founded the firm on the conviction that criminal defence and human rights advocacy are inseparable — that the same rigour required to challenge the state in the dock is required to challenge it before international bodies when individuals have been wronged.
His leadership centres on two commitments: to clients facing serious criminal charges, absolute dedication to their defence and the vindication of every procedural safeguard the law provides; and to victims of human rights abuses, relentless pursuit of accountability and redress, whether before German courts, the European Court of Human Rights, or other international forums.
